Chapter 162
“I heard that the Radbury family was not very happy and took Jean away after we met up previously.” Selden said Her heart
skipped a beat. “Who told you that?” “That’s not the point. Damien...” Ava’s face turned grim immediately. “Since you already
know, you shouldn’t come and see me again.” “But I want to protect you. Even if you don’t want me anywhere near you, I still
want to take care of you.”
He stretched out his hand to grab her fingers, but she pulled back without any hesitation.
“Selden, you’re not the one who should protect me. I don’t need your protection either.” She had already finished her cup of
coffee, so she stood up and said, “It’s time for me to go back to work.”
After she walked a few steps away, Selden asked her from behind, “Why can’t it be me? Why does it always have to be him?”
Her steps froze for a mere second before she continued walking.
“It was I who met you first, and I got to know you first! So tell me why?” Selden’s voice was not loud but she could hear every
word clearly. However, she pretended not to hear anything. After all, not everything had to be ‘first come, first serve’.
Furthermore, she didn’t even know what her heart wanted yet. Hence, she didn’t want anyone to meddle with this and decide for
her.
Selden sat still in his seat with a bitter smile on his face. “I’m too late, and I’ll always be too late...” He raised his head and saw
Kelly standing nearby. Clearly, Kelly had already seen him. However, she didn’t go up to him just now because she saw Ava
sitting with him. Now that Ava had left, Kelly came over and sat on the seat that Ava occupied earlier. “Why are you here?”
Selden asked her. “Don’t get me wrong. I’m not here because of you. My agent brought me here to discuss my advertisement
project with the Radbury Group. It’s just a coincidence anyway.” It made sense that Hensley, who had put off much of his career

over the past few years in pursuit of Selden, would want to resume her career and work with his former partner, the Radbury
Group. Selden didn’t say anything upon hearing that. Then, Kelly ordered a cup of coffee and suddenly laughed out loud.
“Selden, do you know? I never liked Americanos, but because you loved them, I tried to like them and now I’m surprised that I’ve
gotten used to the taste.” Selden frowned slightly.
She continued, “I never understood until today. Perhaps you never really liked Americanos at all, and you took it only because it
is Ava’s usual order.” “What are you trying to say?” Kelly rested her chin on her palm and smiled brightly, “When I was a child, I
found a puppet. My family thought that I would become an animal scientist when I grew up, or a vet at worst. But nobody
expected me to become your lap-dog.” Finally, Selden laughed.
The project between the Radbury Group and Selden had finally begun production.
That day, Damien, Selden, and some other executives went to the production site to check on things. The factory was located in
the suburbs and the roads along the way were not very well-maintained. To make matters worse, they encountered a minor
accident as they trundled along a tiny slip road. “Sir, it rained a few days ago so the road ahead is a little muddy. Mr. Oakley’s car

is stuck in the mud, so I think we can’t use this route.” A staff member said to Damien.
Damien exited the car and saw that Selden and others had also got out of the car. Meanwhile, Selden stood on the side of the
road and was directing some men to get the wheels out of the mud.
“It’s really unlucky for me to work with you. Sh*t happens all the time.” Selden said in a sarcastic tone.
“If you have the time to enjoy the breeze here, you’d better get down there and help to prevent any further delays.” Damien
replied.
There were more than a dozen staff with them, so Selden would most definitely not do this kind of work!
He stood on the side of the road and refused to step into the mud to help out. Fortunately, after nearly half an hour’s delay, the
car finally got out of the mud and they continued their trip.
Damien looked at the time. He had been delayed on the road for so long that he might not be able to reach home on time in the

evening.
Therefore, he sent a message to Ava to tell her that she didn’t have to wait for him to have dinner.
However, Ava did not reply him.
At this moment, Ava was in a troublesome situation.
Karen had come to the company earlier, and when she heard that Damien was not around, she asked the secretary to bring Ava
to her! On the other hand, Ava thought that it was Damien who called for her. When she reached the office, she realized that it
was Karen.
“Oh, what are you doing here?” She was very surprised. “Why? This is my family’s company. Can’t I be here?” “Of course you
can. It’s just...what can I do for you?”
Karen raised her chin and snorted coldly. Then, Ava’s heart started beating rapidly as she had a bad feeling about this. Karen
had come here out of a sudden looking for her! At the time, she could only hope that Damien was coming back as soon as
possible. But since he had the stuff to handle, he wouldn’t be back so soon. “Why are you so nervous? I won’t harm you.” Karen
rolled her eyes. She threw out a document and said, “Sign it.” “What is this?” Ava’s heart skipped a beat.
She knew that her mother-in-law never liked her. Could it be that she wanted her to sign a divorce agreement and get out of the
family?
Recently, she had been so bored that she started watching TV dramas and what Karen was doing seemed to fit the cliche plots!
Would Karen hand her a cheque later on? “What are you waiting for? Hurry up and sign it before you leave. You’re an eyesore to
me.” Karen’s tone was obviously very impatient. However, Ava did not take the document on the table. Instead, she took a step
back and said, “I won’t sign it.” “Ava Nagel, don’t try to be smart with me!” Karen was furious when she heard this. She slammed
her hands on the table and stood up. “I know you don’t like me, but since I’m Damien’s wife and Jean’s mother, you don’t have
the right to chase me away, nor can you separate me and my son!” Ava’s attitude was equally tough as well. “Well, I haven’t
misjudged you! Ava, your amnesia is just for show, right? You really are gunning for our family’s wealth!”

Karen threw the document on the ground and said, “I don’t care if you sign it or not. Just know that the Radbury’s wealth will
never fall into your hands!” After that, Karen left angrily. She didn’t mention anything about Jean. Ava then breathed a sigh of
relief. She squatted down to pick up the document. When she saw the contents of the document, she was stunned. This
document was not a divorce agreement but an equity division agreement.
